Artist Statement

I want to hold people’s experiences with an open heart. The most important thing about art is that it’s done in love- the sharing of one’s soul that another can peek into and perhaps fill their own with healing, peace, joy, and wonder, all that art can give at its best. It’s a little piece of humanity, a friend that sits with you and looks and says I’m here, I will sit with you and will not turn away. I love to capture precious moments in life to cherish forever. I believe that art is a way you can heal through and experience all the different moments of life and hold on to them.

Through pottery, I hope to connect with people on a deeper level- It is something that, instead of just visualizing it, people can touch it and have a deeper connection. It can be a way to warm someone’s heart when they are hurting and a way to heal. When I make my pottery, I try to make beauty, and I hope that when others see the beauty in this, they can see it in themselves.

Portraits are a way to get a deeper understanding of the beauty and diversity of humankind. I want to unveil the depth and complexity inherent in every life. Every wrinkle tells a story, every stretchmark holds some sacrifice, and every withered hand spends many hours in faithful work. The imperfect is perfect because nothing is worthless that is made in the image of God; nothing is beyond calling beautiful that has the stamp of eternity on it. Using all of this, I want people to connect with my art and feel a familiarity that life reminds them of. I want my art to help people find healing through the pain that can come with life. I want them to see that even though there is pain and hurt, something beautiful can be made.

My aim is to share the love of God through my art.
